Southend Hospital The Memory Service aims to assess patients with memory problems, establish a diagnosis, treat if necessary and support patients with memory problems and their carers. It provides information regarding dementing illnesses to patients and carers as well as information relating to support and resources in the community and hospital.
Referrals are made only by a GP or a hospital doctor.  They should be made to:
Dr Liakas, Memory Clinic, Day Assessment Unit (DAU). Southend Hospital, Prittlewell Chase, Westcliff-on-Sea, SS0 0RY
The referral should include details of recent memory problems and it is appreciated if the GP is able to send recent blood test results  (including U + Es - TFTs - Haematinics - CRP), a list of current medications and contact details of next of kin or carer.
   
South Essex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Referrals are usually made to the consultant psychiatrist by GPs, Community Mental Health Teams or the Accident and Emergency Department, or the admission suite, following assessment. The Community Mental Health Teams have an open referral system, so referrals can also be made by client, carers, family members, GPs, psychiatrists and other health care professionals by letter, telephone, in person, by fax or email. Referrals can also be made to our physiotherapists who specialise in keeping people mobile whilst preventing falls and advising carers on avoiding back strain.
 
Community Mental Health Team (CMHT's)
CMHT’s include community psychiatric nurses, occupational therapists and assistants, psychologists, approved social workers, support workers, psychiatrists and staff grade doctors.
Ashingdon Ward at Runwell hospital is an assessment ward for older people with an "organic mental illness" from the Southend, Castle Point and Rochford districts.
Clifton Lodge in Westcliff, is an NHS nursing home for older people with mental health needs from the Southend district;
